Solar powered cars have photovoltaic cells located on the surface of the vehicle. The cells capture sunlight and convert it into electricity. The electricity runs a special kind of motor. The average speed for these cars is about 37 miles per hour. They are mostly in experimental stage. Many colleges have teams that compete to build and race solar powered cars. With more experimentation and testing, we can hope that someday the public could use these cars. | Matt's Solar Car Page |

Passive solar powered homes are designed to take full advantage of the sun. These homes are often build with large windows facing south, in order to receive the most light from the sun throughout the day. Active solar powered houses directly collect the sun's energy to turn into electricity. Photovoltaic cells are used for this. |
